Making the most of 'Abundance'

As in previous years, we have arranged for children from Year 4 to have the opportunity this autumn to join Abundance London in their seasonal project to harvest the glut of local fruit (apples, pears, plums, quinces, cherries, grapes .etc.) that would otherwise remain unharvested.

Our first team went out on Monday and walked round to harvest a tree in the garden of a local resident, accompanied by Mrs Dalton and Karen Liebrich and Sarah Cruz from Abundance. They learnt how to pick, grade and sort the fruit and brought it back to be stored at school. We hope that with further picking sessions in the next few weeks, there will be produce to share with others in the school community either to eat fresh or use for cooking.  In the past, funds raised from selling produce at the school gate and at the local fruit fair have enabled us to develop our own gardens within school.

The annual Abundance Fruit Fair will be on Saturday 1st October from 12-4pm outside St Michael and All Angels Church.  As well as produce for sale there will be traditional fruity activities – big apple press, longest peel, smoothie bike and crafty activities and all are welcome.

We will try to take a camera with us next week.  In the meantime do look at the Abundance website to find out more. http://www.abundancelondon.com/
