Back to the 50's - Summer Fair

This year's BHSA Summer Fair was a wonderful day of retro and rock'n'roll.  It opened at 11.00am to the sounds of live 50's music, to the sights of bright 50's costumes, colourful bunting and streamers and to the enticing smells of food cooking on the barbeques.  There were plenty of stalls to tempt any visitor as well as attractions in the form of fairground rides and bouncy castles.  However, this fair had some special 1950's features.  Not only were we entertained throughout the day by Daisy Chain, the live band, but there were also other special guests who had been at Belmont as pupils in the 1950's!  It was lovely to welcome them back to the School and to hear from them about their memories of their time here.  There was also a historical corner near the air-raid shelter where visitors could find out more about Belmont in the past and see if they could answer all the quiz questions, a challenge members of last year's Year 6 took up with enthusiasm!

Two rain showers failed to dampen anyone's enthusiasm or send them home early - it just provided an ideal opportunity for more people to enjoy the Belmont art exhibition in the middle hall. Besides, no one was keen to leave before the eagerly awaited 'Belmont's Got Talent' competition on the stage.  As ever, it was abundantly clear that Belmont children have indeed got talent - for singing, dancing, gymnastics, comedy etc. and the children's hard work in rehearsal very much paid off.

Huge thanks are due to the organising committee led by Katherine and Alison and to all those who made the day such a success.
