School Council Eco-Day

We are fortunate that our School Council is always a very active and engaged group dedicated to the improvement of the School. On Friday, Miss Ehrhardt and Mrs Richards took them over to Kings House Sports Ground in Dukes Meadow to join a local Eco-Day. We started with a maths challenge looking at how far children in Rwanda carried water each day. Then we calculated how much water could be carried at what speed. Then it was time to try it out with a race between two teams using varying vessels. We then moved on to a session about the River Crane and have plans to introduce it as a new school trip. A hot lunch was provided with many a comparison made to our own school dinners. From there, we went on to create and perform in a junk orchestra, with instruments made of recycled junk. After an active 'jamming' session, the group made smoothies by riding a bike! No more detail on this until we bring it into school. Finally we met Ranger Stu and his tarantula, scorpion and armadillo!

We had a great day out and have many plans and suggestions to bring back to our next School Council session. Thanks to Kings House School for arranging the day and running it so well.
