Y5 Evacuee Workshop

On Tuesday the 11th of October, Year 5 had a chance to experience what it was like to be an evacuee in WW2. We all dressed up as evacuees, some had gas mask boxes, some had a toy and some had an identity card on their outfits. Firstly, in the morning we took a photo in groups of four and as a whole year. Then, in English we wrote a diary entry from the point of view of an evacuee. It was really helpful that we were dressed up as it made it easier to imagine what it might have been like.

In the afternoon, we had a workshop with the Rainbow Theatre. It was interesting for everyone because they had a chance to get in role especially with their props. The whole thing was set in five scenes all part of the evacuation scheme in WW2. It wasn’t just acting! We also sang two songs we learnt earlier in the day. The songs were ‘We will meet again’ by Vera Lynn and ‘Doing the Lambeth Walk’.  Both these songs were fun to learn.

Overall we had a GREAT day! We all enjoyed it and it wouldn’t have happened if we didn’t have our epic teachers, Mr Grigg and Miss Kay!
