  • Thursday 10 June 2021 Y6 Barton Hall PGL - Day Three Today we have had an amazing second day of activities. It’s been warm but cloudy which was probably needed after yesterday’s hot weather. The groups have taken part in raft building and you guessed it, it involved getting very wet when we had to ‘abandon ship’ into the lake, especially when ‘HMS Baguette’ got destroyed. We have also done the trapeze, as well as a sensory trail. For this we got to follow challenging obstacles including being blindfolded and had to trust the person in front. A LOT of teamwork was needed! We’ve had a chance to do some rifle shooting today but were lucky to be under cover as it then drizzled. The children described some of their experiences: “It was awesome.” “I want to hit more targets.” “Raft building was challenging but fun because everyone worked as a team and at the end we got to enter the water!” “The food is mouth melting.” “The HMS Baguette still lives in
  • Thursday 10 June 2021 Y6 Barton Hall PGL - Day Four Today has been our last full day of activities, and what a brilliant day we’ve had! Four groups began the day on the water, having lots of fun paddling canoes out on the lake. After playing a few games, including ‘food tag’, the session ended with a series of challenges which lead to ‘Abandon ship!’ ... which of course involved jumping out of their boats and getting wet for the second day in a row! Others used their teamwork, knot tying and design skills to create a buggy from plastic barrels, rope and logs, and then raced them against each other. Further activities include passport to the world which is a treasure hunt for flags around the centre and finding out more about them (lots of exercise involved!) and orienteering which involved finding hidden ‘stamps’ around the site. All in all another great day creating wonderful memories! Quote of the day: “This is the best holiday ever, can we stay for another month!”

  • Tuesday 8 June 2021 Y6 Barton Hall PGL - Day Two What a FANTASTIC first full day we have had!We all enjoyed taking a dip in the heated outdoor pool for a fun swim. There were splashing matches, jumping in competitions and plenty of games played. Some groups started their day swinging around in the giant swing whilst others learnt survival techniques! Each group will have a go on all activities throughout the week. In all the activities the children have shown superb teamwork skills, been extremely brave and offer kind words of encouragement (even when the teachers felt nervy). We are so proud of them. To finish the activities for the day some children climbed the vertical challenge whilst others took part in some problem solving tasks.Overall a jam packed FUN day. We can not wait to complete our “Ambush” evening activity! Some fun quotes:“I’m having the BEST TIME EVER!”“This is the funniest holiday I’ve ever been on!”“I thought I would miss home but I feel like this is my home!&rdqu
  • Monday 7 June 2021 Y6 Barton Hall PGL - Day One As the glorious sun rose this morning it brought along a positive energy in the children as they realised it was finally time to go on PGL! While embarking on the coach, there was excitement in the air and there were beaming smiles across everyone’s face (including the teachers!). There was a huge sigh of relief as the coach pulled away and one child said, “Woohoo! We have made it, COVID-19 won’t stop us!”After a lot of chat and giggles being heard across the coach, we stopped for a snack break and then for a spot of lunch. Once we had eaten, the children (and some teachers) really enjoyed participating in a game of 'Duck, duck, goose' and the 'chicken dance'. As we boarded the coach for the final stretch, the excitement increased until we finally turned the corner and saw the PGL sign. This was followed by a large roar and huge cheer.
